Samsung are preparing to unveil their next flagship in the coming weeks so it’s pretty normal that the internet rumor mill is working at full speed, churning out speculation after speculation of what the next Galaxy superphone is going to be like. We’ve scoured the internet, and have separated the sane from the insane. Here are some of the few things we assume that might turn up in the next Galaxy S smartphone.
The biggest change that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is supposed to get is in the display department. There are rumors going around that the S5 will feature a radical QHD, that’s 2560×1440 pixel display which will measure 5.32 inches diagonally. Yes, you heard that right. A resolution commonly associated with high end computer monitors is now going to be in a small smartphone. Talk about overkill.
But this is just a rumor, remember. In fact, if New York Times is to be trusted, then the next Galaxy S5 will not feature a QHD display, it’s stuck with just full HD for now. Rather, the report says that the old current Galaxy S4 has failed to meet sales expectations, so Samsung is toning things down a bit. And is instead focusing more on changing the appearance of the device.
We have long mourned the absence of an attractive body shell on the superbly capable Galaxy S smartphones. It seems that the general public has too so Samsung are finally going to give up with their dated design language. On of the other rumored features of the Galaxy S5 is the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner that’s integrated right into the display. Why? Well Apple have done it with their iPhone 5S, so why shouldn’t Samsung? Lack of app support, maybe. But that’s another debate.
Internally, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to feature the new Exynos 6 or the Snapdragon 805 chipset. The camera is apparently getting an upgrade too, with the resolution being bumped to 16 megapixels. We really do hope that Samsung surprises us somewhere in the hardware of this upcoming smartphone. Software can be tweaked anytime, hardware stays and makes the impression.
Now as we said earlier, that all of this is just wild speculation for now. The next Galaxy S might even feature the mythical QHD display, who knows. The Galaxy S brand is losing its value, and Samsung know this from the low sales it is generating. If the next Galaxy S doesn’t succeed in pushing out something new, we’re afraid the brand will be on its way to obscurity. Remember Razr? No line of products is invincible. Will Samsung wow us? Only time can tell but you can be sure we will cover it on the GSM Nation Blog and it will be available from the GSM Nation Store.
