Living with room mates can be an amazing experience. You essentially have a friend with you at all times so living away from home doesn’t get entirely dreadful. But this can also have its fair share of complications when the time comes to divide household chores. It’s hard to argue with someone someone you’ll be living with (not to mention someone who knows your secrets in and out). So how do you manage a shared living space in a fair and transparent manner? That’s what the Homeslice app is here for.
The Homeslice app is basically a small private network that’s accessed by you and your room mates. Each one of you can add items to the inventory list, add bills, chores and general notifications about what’s going on that might affect the others. For example, chores are always a sore point between room mates. There’s always the slacker who’s hell-bent on leaving the home in a mess. If you can can get your room mates to actually use this app, you can announce chores that need to be done and keep track of them via a convenient to-do list.
Similarly, there’s going to be an inventory list that everyone can add items to. The users can then set the status of items as ‘in-stock’ or “out of stock” by simply swiping them left or right. A big part of any household’s expenditure are the bills, and HomeSlice has taken them into account as well. So there’s a bills list as well, where users can set the status of current bills to “paid” or “received”. Although we’d have liked the “received” to just be “unpaid”. The final module is a sort of a news feed that shows the users the latest updates. So it could be room mates just announcing their plans for the night, or making a general request/announcement of a certain thing that needs to be done. It’s a convenient way of staying in touch without getting distracted, given that all the room mates actually use the app.
HomeSlice is an innovative idea that’s been implemented well by the developers so far. The only problem is the public’s interest. Even if one of the household’s members adopts it, what’s to say that the others will as well. Of course you could always kick them out but give Homeslice a shot before you do so.
