Charity Miles puts the power of smartphones and their incredible influence on our lives towards a good cause. Charity Miles serves as an exercise and fitness tracking app, telling you how much you’ve accomplished and it donates a set amount of money for every mile that you cover. All the user has to do is stay fit, and the Charity Miles app handles the rest.
Using your smartphone’s on-board GPS sensor, the app can track the amount of distance you’ve covered. The Charity Miles app currently supports walking, running and cycling. A user gets 10 cents for every mile when cycling, and 25 cents for every mile when they choose to either walk or run. Once the user has decided their type of activity, they can then choose several of the available charity that they’d like to donate to.
There are several charities to choose from, including Ironman Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Autism Speaks among many others. After you’ve completed your run/route, you can choose to accept a sponsorship, that will ultimately be the source of funding for the charity. While you’re at it, the app also asks you to share your results on social media and spread awareness about Charity Miles.
The Charity Miles app itself is very well designed and incredibly easy to use. Simply fire it up, give it permission to track your location and that’s pretty much it. Your distance covered is displayed in bold letters, after all that is the whole point of this app. By sponsoring runners, walkers and cyclists through Charity Miles, sponsoring corporations can reach an audience very easily and effectively.
“Nobody walks for charity in secret. It’s something you do to make a statement and to raise awareness. When you’re done, we hope you will share on Facebook and Twitter. That has a very valuable market value.”
