BB10 Needs Apps, Apps and Apps
5 Essential BlackBerry 10 Apps For The Platform’s success
Everyone knows that for a new platform to succeed, it needs a good selection of apps for the users. Some may argue that the app gap for newer platforms like BlackBerry 10 is not a very big deal and we agree, to some extent. In my opinion, the number of BlackBerry 10 apps is irrelevant. For example, the Play Store has more than 700,000 apps. Out of the 120 I have installed on my Nexus 4, I use 25-30 on a regular basis in some way. If a new platform is to lure me away, it only needs to have the apps that I use on a regular basis and the same is the case for everyone (except for the power users who make up, at most, 10-15% of the total user base).
However, the fact of the matter is that there are certain services whose core experience cannot be replicated in an Android port (reports say they stick out like a sore thumb compared to native BB10 apps). BlackBerry needs them as native BlackBerry 10 apps built on their Cascades platform to take full advantage of the Z10 and other devices that debut on the operating system. For instance, I know people who are hardcore Instagram users and will not buy a Z10 even if it was the best phone in the world because it doesn’t have Instagram. So it could be considered an essential app. Here we take a look at 5 such BlackBerry 10 apps that are crucial for BlackBerry 10’s success.
