iPhone 4: Hulu Plus & Flashlight App

With countless iPhone apps already out there, one would think that the iPhone’s full potential had already been realized. But new apps for the handset make us all reevaluate the phone’s potential. Take Hulu Plus for instance.

Hulu Plus is Hulu’s plan of offering television content over the airwaves. Many new as well as old shows will be available through Plus. Video quality will be at full 720p resolution thereby not compromising visual brilliance. The service will be ad supported and subscription based. Hulu will offer Plus through an iOS app to iPod, iPhone, and iPad owners. Internet access, either through 3G or Wi-Fi, will be required.

Apple’s devices, however, are not where Hulu Plus will stop: upcoming Samsung televisions and Blu-Ray players connected to the web will also have access to Hulu Plus. Owners of these devices will be able to enjoy Hulu’s massive television content directly on their televisions in high definition. Products by Sony and Visio, along with gaming consoles PS3 and Xbox 360 will also be supported in the future.

Since Hulu Plus will be a paid service, it will carry some perks over Hulu.com. For example, each episode of every season will be available. Other additional features have yet to be announced. Those interested can get Hulu’s app from the App Store and send in a Hulu Plus preview request, which Hulu is currently accepting.

On the similar note of furthering the iPhone’s horizons, somebody created a flashlight application for iPhone 4. Although great news, this hardly comes as a surprise; the iPhone 4’s back-camera flash was bound to be used as a flashlight. No longer will you have to use the display’s light to find stuff in the dark – this flashlight app will surely be a convenience to many iPhone 4 owners.

Hopefully the app will be authorized by Apple and will not end up on Cydia where only jailbroken sets can use it.
