Nexus S has its New Attire!

The Nexus S has a new design with a new white shell, which, just as with the Galaxy S, only extends to its back portions, leaving the front the same. Just what’s keeping manufacturers from customizing their phones to look good and become more appealing, we don’t know, but at least it’s looking like there’ll be some changes in the Nexus S’ palette. We did notice a “Silver Black” Nexus S sprouting up in retailers’ in Europe listings a week ago, which this could well be – it all depends on how loosely these companies define the word “silver.” We still don’t have any idea when or where this chromatically altered S will be on sale, anyway let’s just wait and see how beautiful it is.

Android Smartphones Affected by Malicious Wallpaper App

As cellphones turned into smartphones and began replicating the features of a computer, hackers quickly turned their attention to new ways of collecting people’s information. But thanks to security firms like Lookout, malicious tools are soon detected often without causing any large scale damages.

The latest in Lookout’s discoveries is a wallpaper app meant for Android phones. The app is developed by “Jackeey Wallpaper” and provides numerous wallpapers including branded content.

As users enjoy the app, it does something very malicious in the background: it quietly collects personal information such as SIM card numbers, text messages, subscriber identification, and voicemail passwords. The app then sends the information to a site located in Shenzhen, China. The site is www.imnet.us

Lookout discovered the app through their App Genome Project that hopefully will continue to catch such malicious tools.

AT&T Fixing 3G Upload Speeds

Earlier this month, AT&T’s 3G users started reporting serious problems in upload speeds. Most of the problems were being faced by owners of the iPhone 4 and other devices that support faster HSUPA upload speeds. The speed dropped from 1Mbps or more to often just a fraction of the regular speed.

AT&T was quick in their response and began looking for the problem’s cause. The problem seemed to be found in areas that AT&T covered through the Alcatel-Lucent hardware. Therefore the Alcatel-Lucent hardware was the culprit.

Some people had gotten news of AT&T fixing the upload speeds problem and this has now been confirmed by the carrier. Alcatel-Lucent has now developed a patch that will restore the speeds on handsets that were facing the upload speed problems. The fix is expected to roll out in 2-3 weeks.

Samsung Galaxy Q Specifications Leaked

According to the latest leak on Samsung’s set Galaxy Q, it will be similar to Galaxy S in a number of ways.

The phone will run on Froyo (Android 2.2) but that does not make much difference as Galaxy S will soon be getting a Froyo update itself.

The processor, storage, and connectivity options remain more or less the same: 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, 16GB storage, Bluetooth 3.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11n.

Galaxy Q’s display will be smaller than that of Galaxy S, sadly. Where the Galaxy S had a 4-inch 800×480 screen, Galaxy Q will have a 3-inch 720×480 S-AMOLED screen.

Camera-wise, Galaxy Q will definitely be preferred over Galaxy S. The rear camera has been upgraded from 5 megapixels to 8, and the front facing VGA camera has been upgraded to a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Galaxy Q will feature multi-touch as well as a full QWERTY keypad. From the leak, the dimensions suggest it will have a candy bar form factor.

Hopefully the next leak regarding the set will contain a photo, a price, availability, and a release date.
