Galaxy S IV: Release Date Tipped for May 2013

Samsung Galaxy S IV Could Look Like This

Samsung Galaxy S IV Could Look Like This

It is hard to believe that that the Samsung Galaxy SIII was released back in May this year. In that time, the phone has racked up 30 million sales. So naturally, it isn’t surprising that there is going to be a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the rumor mill is already in full swing with the purported specs, features and expected release date for the successor to one of the most popular smartphones of our time. Here is a round-up of all the rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Design:

Rumors suggest that we wont see any drastic changes in exterior design to the Samsung Galaxy S4. We aren’t too excited about this particular rumor. Even though we love the Galaxy SIII, it felt a bit on the cheap side. We sincerely hope that Samsung goes for a better construction for the Galaxy S IV. Samsung recently announced the 10nm 64GB eMMC memory chip, which is 20% smaller and 33% faster than current NAND standards so expect the Samsung Galaxy S4 to be bigger (to accommodate the larger display), slimmer and lighter with a plastic construction.

The Display:

The Samsung Galaxy S IV will have a 4.99 inch  Super AMOLED full HD display with a resolution of 1920×1080. This works out to be a mouth watering 441 pixels per inch, much higher than what the Retina display of the iPhone 5 offers. We know that Samsung is working on flexible OLED screen technology and it will be interesting to see if the Samsung Galaxy S4 features that. Recent production issues, according to DigiTimes, might force the Korean giant to go with the Super AMOLED or push back the release date for the phone if it decides to go with OLED. Samsung is expected to show off the display that will be on the newest Galaxy phone at the CES 2013.

Under the Hood:

Samsung will also go in-house with the innards of the Galaxy S IV with the Exynos 5450 quad core processor expected to power the phone. The CPU on the phone would be an updated Mali T-658. The battery on the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be a 3200mAh, which makes a lot of sense because such a high powered processor would drain the battery in record time.

Another rumor by the EETimes suggest that Samsung will announce an 8 core processor based on ARM’s big.little concept in February. This processor will be a 28nm SoC and will employ two quad core clusters. One will run at 1.8GHz and will be geared for high performance apps, while the other cluster will run at 1.2GHz and will be optimized for energy efficiency. If Samsung does announce this processor, we could very well see it in the Galaxy S IV.

The Camera:

Stock issues forced Samsung to go with a 8MP camera on the Note 2, however, this wont be the case for the Galaxy S IV because it is expected to have a a 13MP shooter. The Samsung Galaxy S4 sensor is expected to be a Sony Exmore RS which could make it one of the best cameras in the market.

The Release Date:

Rumors have been all over the place when it comes to the expected release date of the Galaxy S IV. Samsung, through Twitter, officially denied the February MWC 2013 launch date recently. Our inside sources suggest that Samsung will announce the Samsung Galaxy S4 sometime in April with a May release date. But expect the tech on the Samsung Galaxy S4 to be flaunted much earlier at the CES and MWC next year.
